Lambert - A Red Once Again

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Rickie Lambert from Southampton City for a fee of £4.5M on a two year contract.

The 32 year old earlier put pen to paper as he rejoined Liverpool after being released from the club 17 years ago. Lambert's official conformation was earlier today, after touching in the city ahead of an early medical.

This is Lambert's dream move to the club and has said that his love for the club has not stopped.

Lambert is also to meet up with his England team-mates in Miami, ahead of their next two friendlies before starting the World Cup.

Liverpool persuaded the club to let them have Lambert back at a fee of £4 million with add ons in the contract due to inital apperances and achievements. Rickie joined the club at the tender age of 15 after growing up in Kirkby. The Scouse born striker has expressed his delight on returning to the Merseyside club.

“I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven't stopped loving it since. I'm so happy."

“To be back here now having just signed at the age of 32 is hard to describe. Obviously I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come."

Lambert also added that he was shocked at knowing that his old club was expressing interest in him.

Lambert completed five stunning seasons at Southampton, scoring an impressive 117 goals in just 235 apperances. Lambert also helped the club of the South Coast to achieve their dream of being in the Premier League.

His exciting statistics at Southampton paved him a way into the England squad. Back in August, Lambert was a substitution in a 3-2 win against Scotland scoring the goal at Wembley. He will also be part of the squad for the World Cup, which kicks off later this month.

I just can't wait to get started,” he said. “I am going away with England and going to a World Cup, so that's what I'll be thinking of, but I am not going to be able to let what has happened, and what is to come, go out of my head."

Despite the excitement of once again becoming a Liverpool player, Lambert has a job to do in Brazil as one of many strikers in Roy Hodgson's sqaud, however, upon return his focus will be helping Liverpool achieve what could have happened last season.

When I get back, that's when my focus turns to Liverpool, coming to pre-season, meeting the players and going from there. I want to hit the ground running, I want to start well and I believe I will."

Lambert also believes that he is mentally prepared to face the challenges at Anfield next season, prior to Champions League nights returning to Anfield.

"I know how big Liverpool are, and it means everything to me, but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on.”

Rickie Lambert is one of the first to be on the Melwood turf as Liverpool look to persue more summer transfers in bolstering their squad for next seasons endeavours.
